Van Nevel brothers gear up for 2003 season - February 12, 2003
DAYTONA BEACH, Florida -- In a solid and consistent 2002 campaign in the European Challenge Series, Bart and Koen van Nevel finished third and fourth in the points race. This season, the Claessens Motorsports twins are following into the footsteps of the Runeson brothers.
In a short organized press conference the Van Nevels told the press: "Finally we're ready again to take up the challenge with all our knowledge from past seasons after a long break. The Grand European Division cars are very different to the European Challenge Series cars with the biggest difference being the tires. Last year we had the opportunity to collect data with the Hoosier tires. Our mechanics can use and perfect the data for Stijn Claessens' No. 39 car, who is still driving in the European Challenge Series.
This year with the change of division we also have the Goodyear compound to use so the team will have to develop new setups for each track. We will need some time to work our way to the top but that's the sport and we love it. Apart from the rubber, nothing has changed on the car. Christoph Müller painted the cars as they were before but now with the Goodyear decals which we welcome. Our main sponsors Calo Computers and New Holland have trust in us to carry on the good work gained last season and we look forward to an enjoyable season on and off the race track this year."
After talking with the press, a photoshoot took place with the sponsors, press and ESCORS officials all present. The new cars are soon to be trackside to begin practicing for the season-opening Sportsman 250.
